Sega has revealed that Sonic will return to its roots with Project Needlemouse. A new game that will be built “from the ground up” in high definition, returning to the 2d aspect and high speeds of the 16bit originals!

Only a very short teaser trailer was released with the news; it is not yet clear if this is a full retail release or Xbox Live Arcade title.

Sonic is known for being at its best during the 2D 16Bit era - maybe this could indeed restore the popularity of the blue hog where all the other 3D game versions failed!
