New exclusive screens of Things on Wheels, plus new info

The Xbox Live Arcade is a download service packed to the brim with game titles, ranging from puzzle games, shooters, to fighting games. If there’s one genre the service is severely lacking titles in, it has to be racing, and that’s exactly the thing Load Inc. intends to change with Things on Wheels, aka ToW, the studio’s second XBLA endeavor (Mad Tracks was the first). Head inside for fresh information on the upcoming RC racer, as well as twelve exclusive screenshots.

The Paris-based developer today confirmed to us that it has finished the game, which means it is only a matter of time before it is sent off to Microsoft to go through the final certification process. Also revealed to us was that Load Inc. is undecided as to what the price is going to be, but one thing is for sure – it’s either going to be 800 or 1200 Microsoft Points.

When you think about it, Things on Wheels is the first true racing game to hit the Arcade – well, there’s Yaris, yeah, but we don’t think anybody wants that game to be remembered as the Arcade’s first racing game, right? Good.

For those not in the know, Things on Wheels is an arcade remote control racing game which plays much like 1999’s Acclaim’s Re-Volt. The game is set in a large house which makes for an interesting racing experience when you take into account that your car is only the size of a small teddy bear. Read up on the main features below:

  • 1-4 Players including cooperative and multiplayer via Xbox Live
  • Full voice support
  • Realistic controls and physics for each car
  • RC models ranging from Muscle cars to Sportster class
  • Regular downloadable content updates planned
  • 12 off the wall achievements available
  • Unique tracks and settings as you race through an Art Deco Mansion
  • In-game bonuses and obstacles offer players interesting options while racing

In case you want to learn more about the game, head over to the official site which just so happens to be freshly updated with news today.

If it’s 800, I’ll get it.

This looks like fun.

When the hell will there be a new version of Mashed? I’m sick of these toy car racers.

Hmmm Novadrome anyone??? That was a racing game…..

Comment by DenisDenis on 2008-09-26 13:03:10

Novadrome?
Errrrr, download the trial version again and get back to us.
It is a battle arena game. Not racing!
Cheers,
Denis.

Wasn’t Mad Tracks the first? Even Gripshift has some racing in it. As for Yaris….WTF!

The sad thing is that Re-Volt actually looked better than this.

Comment by DenisDenis on 2008-09-26 13:24:24

Agreed Re-Volt still looks good. We’re flatered that you compare ToW to that mythical game!
Did you know the producer of ToW was actualy in the original Revolt team?
We hope you’ll play the trial version and tell us what you think!
Cheers,
Denis.

Sod racing. Where’s War World?

Comment by Nekro on 2008-09-27 21:08:31

If it was 8 player online I would bang down 1200 if I liked the trial, but as it’s 4 then I’ll only buy after trial if it’s 800

If Gran Turismo 5 was available on XBLA do you think people would still buy this PSone/N64 looking game?

Burnout Paradise is now available for download on PSN. Why not XBLA?

I got Mad Tracks already, this looks the same.
I’m not trying to bash your game. Believe me I will be purchasing it the day it releases.

But there is now 2 full retail racing games available on PSN. When is 360 Marketplace going to catch on?

When (and where) are the design an achievement contest winners going to be announced?

Comment by Smitty on 2008-09-28 02:56:49

I can help you with your questions Yama. First Gran Turismo 5 will never be available on XBLA because high end quality games of that nature are always going to be on PS3 only, where they belong. Secondly Burnout Paradise isn’t on XBLA because XBLA is worthless horse shit. Thirdly marketplace is never going to catch on because it sucks that bad. And lastly although you didn’t ask, the sickest game this year will be Little Big Planet, trust me when I say it will be the biggest thing out there and completely revolutionize gaming as we know it and its exclusive to PS3 surprise , surprise.
