Rumour: 360 price cuts on all SKUs early next month
We can all agree that last month’s so-called “price cut” on the Xbox 360 Pro unit wasn’t exactly what we had in mind prior to the official announcement. Nothing but disappointment followed, save for the new 60GB HDD which made the pill a tad easier to swallow. All hope is not lost though! The same source that kick started the 60GB 360 unit rumour is now back with new top secret information.
This is the latest piece of information that Ars Technica has learned from its trustworthy mole:
Price reduction on all 360 hardware in early September:
- Arcade (no hard drive) to $199
- Pro (60GB) to $299
- Elite (120GB) to $399
Also revealed was that the forthcoming release of Forza 2 Platinum Hits will feature all the downloadable content released on the Marketplace so far, making the title a steal.
Remember – this is all a rumour for now, but one that has a sporting chance of being true. We’ll have more on this as it develops.

you can’t polish a turd, lol!
Sony keeps trying to.
theres not enough polish in the world for that :)
Chris, you can’t emulate intelligence.
Sure you can. A few Blonds have been doing it a while now.
sony fanboys can hardly afford their turn
At $100 difference between the Arace and Pro, and $200 to the elite, doesn’t that make the arcade and a hard drive purchase a better deal?
almost the arcade doesn’t have HD cables but once the 60gb comes out at $99 it will be a good deal because you will also get a memory card. this is a good deal to me i need to replace my system very soon and i already have a vga cord a 120gb hd and 3 controllers this is a deal for me its pretty much a 100 for the system 50 for the memory card and 50 for the controller
For the last time, why doesn’t Microsoft get rid of the Arcade 360? It’s absolutely pointless to sell a console like that when most 360 games need the hard drive for save data and downloadable content.
I would guess because:
1. It has a higher margin than the other consoles.
2. The price point that it hits at will atract more consumers that don’t realize that a HDD is worth the money.
3. People like me who already have an elite and want a console as a spare/travel console.
4. People who’s console breaks and don’t want to wait for it to be repaired.
5. Enough people buy it that it is still worth it to them to sell it.
So for the last time, it makes finantial sense for Microsoft to offer the Arcade.
to add to this good points these skus should have the jasper mobo so in addition anyone who wants the 360 without RRoD
The reason I use arcades is for a cheap and easy to use alternative to a media center extender with an HDMI DVD player.
