Firmware 2.40 now online
If you’ve been living under a rock for the last couple of days or weren’t in the position to visit a games website, you might have missed the great news about Firmware 2.40, which allows you to access the XMB in-game and the addition of trophies. This firmware has just gone live and apart from those two features, there’s a bit more, head inside for the full list of changes.
Below is the official changelog taken from Sony’s Network update website. What’s not mentioned in this list are a few changes in the Playstation Store. Previously some thumbnails were loading really slow, and this can be very annoying for impatient people like yours truly. This seems to be fixed now and browsing through all the stuff in the store seems to go a lot smoother. Another change is the list view of items instead of small icons, this way more information about a certain item is described. Check out this post to see a few videos of the update.

Boo, it’s no longer available for download.
updated mine this evening with no problems
Double Boo is not available. Thats why PS3 is garbage.
this update sucks
Seems lots of people are having problems, thats why its been pulled. Of course, Sony are denying it. But there seems to be lots of forum activity on the subject.
Sony’s Firmware 2.40= Epic Fail
you muppet..
Its a good update in theory, apart from that fact that one of the main points is the trophy system, and currently only one game supports it. Would of thought they would of pressured dev’s to get some more games ready for the same time
It supports at least 3 games that are out: Warhawk, PAIN, and PixelJunk Eden. Now thats now where near the percentage of games that should have them.

Had no trouble myself tho?
I downloaded it monday night/tuesday morning about 12:30am. Haven’t had a problem with it. A friend told me the problem is happening when the system reboots. After the firmware is installed the system reboots and gets hung. I don’t know if its a simple fix or not, as I haven’t had the problem. I also don’t know if its bricking the consoles or just freezing/locking up.
You have to format the hard drive. So you lose everything you have accumulated thus far.
This sucks. To quote Tonya harding “WHYYYYYYYY? WHYYYYYYYYY?”
I think you meant Nancy Kerrigan?
Only one of my friends owns a PS3 and his console is (seemingly) bricked.
I’ll tell him to try and wipe the harddrive, but I’m sure he won’t be pleased. For his sake, I hope its a quick fix.
ps3 aint got games
thats right, no games… metal gear 4, cod 4, gta 4, uncharted, battlefield bad company, gran turismo prologue, ratchet & clank, motorstorm, resistance, r6 vegas, time crisis, warhawk, unreal, and coming soon.. killzone 2, resistance 2, motorstorm 2, cod 5, gran turismo 5, tekken 6, god of war 3,bioshock, twisted metal….

nob head
I updated mine with no problem. It took a while to download granted, but no hic-ups or hangs and I was stoked by the new XMB menu during a game. The menu functions a tad bit slower when a game is running, but nothing worth crying about.
i cant do that because ps3 aint got games
