First ever Halo 3 Xbox Live tournament seeking recruits

Do you think you’ve got the chops to take on the very best Halo 3 players on Xbox Live? Are you prepared to back up your online smack talk with some actual frag-heavy performance against others with similar ‘I rule!’ egos? You are… excellent. Then sign on immediately for the first ever Halo 3 Championship Tournament.

Specifically, Microsoft Game Studios and the U.S. Army have this week joined forces to bring the Halo 3 Championship exclusively to Xbox Live in April of this year (registration begins in March), with the tournament offering up a mass of cool prizes for its eventual winners and finalists.

Those Halo 3 fans looking to test their mettle against other well-versed gaming peers can look forward to participating in a series of ‘Halo 3 Basic Combat Training’ exercises before the tournament proper. Specially designed to provide players with solid preparation prior to the tournament proper, the Basic Combat Training regime will enable gamers to polish up their skills through different weaponry groups and even a vehicle-based practice session.

While full tournament registration is scheduled to begin in March, registration for Basic Combat Training actually began on Monday of this week (January 07), while actual competitive training sessions on Xbox Live will officially launch on Saturday, January 19. Winners subsequently plucked from the training will be gifted with various prizes including Microsoft Points, exclusive Halo 3 artwork, and much more.

Basic Combat Training is scheduled as follows:

Sniper School: Registration begins: Jan 07 - Training begins: Jan 19
Heavy Weapons: Registration begins: Jan 28 - Training begins: Feb 09
Vehicles: Registration begins: Feb 18 - Training begins: Mar 01

Furthermore, tournament co-host the U.S. Army will be hosting a ‘Branded Destination Experience’ site via Xbox Live. Gamers will be able access the Web site and its media-rich ‘Tips and Tricks’ guidance section from the Xbox Live Dashboard. The site will also offer up free Xbox 360 themes and Gamer pictures to mark user participation in the Basic Combat Training practice tournament.

Lol at the US Army using Halo to promote itself.

Lots of new soldiers will be disappointed when they find out Iraqis aren’t brightly coloured aliens and that you don’t get to use a Spartan Laser. Oh, and that blown off legs stay blown off.

Will XBL actually work by April? Too many video/tv and other rubbish pulling XBL down. The gaming side has been pushed to the back because of greed. But it will cost Microsoft in the end. Not been able to use it for 3 wseeks, can’t even get into my account which is due for renewal at the end of the month (not going to happen). So there are possibilities this XBL tournament could be changed to a LAN tournament.

It really is time for me to look at the PS3, never thought I would. But enough is enough.

Wonder if Microsoft are willing to refund everyone or increase the account of everyone for a month, same time it has been unuseable.

Now, need to set up an ebay account to get rid of this white brick.

-sure thing fag
XBL has been working fine, if I were you look into getting a new ISP.

Comment by Steve Perry on 2008-01-10 14:13:34

Whatever mate. I don’t class “working fine” as spending half an hour trying to get a game, only to find it so laggy it’s unplayable.

Comment by MoD Gunslinger on 2008-01-10 15:53:54

LOL games are hosted by other users, if the game is laggy it’s because of the host, not Xbox Live…

And not being able to find a game is YOUR connection too…

LOL

Curious. We just had this line upgraded too. I’ll get my coat.

I have a PS3, and I still find games quicker on XBL than on Sony’s crappy network

trust me, XBL at its WORST i still WAAAAAY better than the PSN.

Comment by whatev on 2008-01-10 16:14:14

but that’s also probly cuase I’m in the good ‘ol USA

Comment by mass9 on 2008-01-10 17:25:46

probably not. I hear the same thing from friends here in Canada and over in Europe too. XBL is a much better service than PSN. You get what you pay for folks. And some down time should be expected. Even the power goes out once in a while.

Comment by Veritas on 2008-01-10 21:19:53

Have you been keeping on top of the situation at all? If you have, then you’d know a) -why- XBL isn’t working and b) that it actually -is- working now.

Jesus, I’m sick of people’s shit. I was there on the first day of problems with the service, and even on THAT NIGHT I managed to connect to games. There were three days in total where I had any problems getting onto the service and finding a game to play. If you had more trouble, fine, but realize that not everyone did, and realize that this is the first time anything like this has happened and it’s all for a good reason, which is that there are more players on the service.

I only get to play Live on vacations now, and I’m still happy to pay $50 a year, because I know that what I’m paying for is entirely worth it. If you can’t survive for a week without playing a game online, then you seriously need to reconsider your life choices.

I guess people aren’t ever happy unless everything is ridiculously convenient for them anymore.

Comment by TheFantasticTit on 2008-01-10 14:52:46

wow how much of a life do people really have to waste themselves on this stupid crap. to compete in a tournament for Halo means you have no life cuz you talk about training for a f***ing game. just get a damn life. get a job and get out and do something.

Comment by naysayerBTC on 2008-01-10 20:25:35

yup, its lame -unless theres a huge cash prize. i think its pretty shit of M$ to put army stuff on live. the army fucking sucks.

Comment by whatev on 2008-01-10 20:47:17

the US army is what it is … foot soldiers. front lines people. the pawns if the military were a chess match.

the army does not suck at all. in fact, it does exactly what its supposed to do: pick up bottom feeders who’s lives are in the gutter and give them training on how not to suck so hard at life and contribute to society.

the army probably figured out that the majority of serious Halo enthusiasts do fall under these catagories:
-crappy/no job
-sucks at life
-needs direction
-lots of free time
-likes to shoot stuff

all of this makes me think that Halo players are in fact a very good target for the US Army.

and anyone who posts regularly knows that this is coming from an AVID Halo fanboy … one woh will be partaking in this tourney.

Comment by whatev on 2008-01-10 20:50:47

no offense to any armymen who actually don’t fall into these catagories, and rather joined the army for love or your country or patriotism. You are the minority

Comment by naysayerBTC on 2008-01-11 19:37:49

Thats the point, the army are what they are, theyre killers and liars and underhanded in there approach to recruitment- the people who get sucked in by the recruitment programs or ‘training’ are really fucking dumb, and the poor dumb bastards are lied to about what their role will be in war, and the situations theyll be put in. Then they realise theyve signed a contract already, so theyre not allowed to leave. A reasonably intelligent person like us says “fuck that, i know bout war- ill get fuckin murked off”, these guys go “ooh, i can get in college after the army, theyve got exciting adverts and theyre even doing a halo tourney- wow theyre great lets join and sign our lives away”
The army have had legal action taken against them many times because they profit from filling young minds with patriotic bullshit then sending them out to shoot people, Its fucking appalling that they should be allowed to advertise on xbox. The last legal action was made because the army were advertising solely to 12 - 16 year olds, with games and videos to make them want to join. The army bigwigs dont care about you. they dont give a fuck for ‘patriotism’. they want money and recruits and lots and lots of dead people.

Comment by Veritas on 2008-01-10 21:23:46

Training to compete in a video game for cash is just as valid a pursuit as training to compete in anything else for a prize. Sports, anyone?

Comment by MoD Gunslinger on 2008-01-10 15:55:03

This coming from a guy named TheFantasticTit.
