Fall Dash Update features leaked
The somewhat late Spring Dashboard Update didn’t introduce as many exciting features as 360 gamers might have hoped for. The additional blade for the Marketplace, Windows Live Messenger integration, and the extension of the background download functionality were the features leading the pack. As Fall draws ever closer, fans are pinning their hopes on the second major update of the year. And as is always the case, the features to be included in the Fall Dashboard Update have been leaked onto the intertubes.
Since the long list of features for the upcoming Dash Update comes straight from the official Xbox.com forums, take it with a huge chunk of salt:
- Compatibility with 3rd party wireless controllers
- Compatibility with messenger pad
- Xbox Live Vision firmware upgrade, sharper image filtering
- Many more Vision Cam settings
- New screensaver settings - when away from Xbox 360, screensaver will play for optional time, before screen goes dark
- New Xbox Live Arcade blade - where you can download, play and learn about Xbox Live Arcade
- Brand new “web based adver-games” flash games which aren’t downloaded, but are playable bite sized games, accessed via new Xbox Live Arcade Blade
- New Screensaver option in Themes and Gamer Pics option in Marketplace blade
- New functionality with Messenger, works with chatpad
- New XNA Game Launcher for those that have the program, new options
- New language, time and date settings
- New “advertising opportunities” in gameplay
- Xvid support
- New “favourites” option via Xbox Live Arcade, can rate according to preference
- IPTV Functionality - support for TiVo like PVR options. Will be able to record TV direct. Options include source by channel, director, actor and distributor
- Filter friends list, will be able to filter friends via games
- New clan support - will be able to launch clan games direct from dashboard, can “fold” friends into new clan category in friends list
- Better translations in settings and other options for Japanese, German and Spanish languages
- New quick option to delete via X Button in memory viewer
- Option for having downloadable In-game content not inform when completed download
- Option for having video content not inform when completed download
- Faster settings for viewing unfinished video content downloads
- New option in Games tab - beta and others, will be launcher for MMO and multiplayer betas
- New option in Marketplace Games tab, search by letter, can be inputted via text pad or console
- Smarter game settings - you can be messaged via publishers about new in-game content for your games
- Picture in picture functionality for DVD Drive and some other updated settings
- Improved USB Keyboard settings
- Improved voice chat settings in game and from dashboard
- Faster response times to Redeem Code settings
- Option to play a Redeemed Code game straight after redeeming code
- Console will now recognise low Hard Drive space, will inform you immediately if can’t download current item, will automatically download next available that is able
- Increased space size for gamerpics and dashboard themes
- Themes can now be animated
- Themes may now have sound effects
- Better slideshow capabilitiesm new options added. New sound effects and integration with Hard Drive/ PC music capable
- New estimated timer for downloads, informing how long download will expect to take
By the looks of it, the hefty list of features appears to be quite legit. Apart from one little thing that is – Xvid support. Despite having been rumored for what seems like ages, the addition of the infamous Xvid support would no doubt anger Microsoft’s movie partners who have been making some serious profits thanks to the Video Marketplace. Until some more reliable information surfaces, we’re filing this one under the rumors section.

I can’t see anything wrong with it to be honest, any divx/xvid files can easily be converted to mp4 with free convertors, the inclusion of xvid would negate the need for this but it isn’t really nesserary.
The real reason for no Xvid is that Microsoft doesn’t have any financial stake in it, and it’s open source. Microsoft has money in h.264. It OWNS WMV. This is why the 360 will never support Xvid, x.264, Divx, Ogg, FLAC, etc

It would be convinient, but lets be honest, my laptop is typically within 10 feet of my 360. I know that this isn’t the case for everyone, but it is for me, so I don’t really want a web browser.

Sounds pretty good. If it’s all true. The one thing I like the most is how people will find anything they can bitch about no matter what it it. Hell Microsoft can say that we will get a free game of our choice just for owning a 360 and people will still bitch about something. Enjoy your sad life. I will enjoy my great one.

I hope they have an option for anyone under 18, minors, to be able to put on adverts for the dashboard. Really annoying and their should be an option to have it or not.

Well Glovner it’s a comment from someone who has to pay of his mortgage and get his kids thru college (yes I’m that old!). Money actually has a value to me so if I’m paying for something like XBL Gold I which is essentially just an expensive for what it is matchmaking service I don’t want to be bothered by ads though I can understand it if there are ads for the silver members.

Let me just say..
no offense to anyone, but if you honestly believe a piece of hardware created and owned by Microsoft would support Xvid, or anything open source, for that matter, you’re a god damned retard…. and you really need to not get your hopes up so high, because you’re bound to be let down by this company many, many, many more times into the future.
and remember, microsoft is the same company that said “Open Source is Communism”, as if it were some grand evil thing.
Here are a few items that I wouldn’t mind seeing put into an update:
- If item marked for download is unable to be downloaded (excluding out of disk space since this is mentioned) I would like to see the item unchecked
- A list of last downloaded items. This would be helpful when you set up the queue to download and shut the machine off when down so you can remember what you downloaded the next time you turn the machine on. It would also be nice to jump to or play that item from the list.
- Remove Trail Arcade Games that where tested out off my list of Games played. Please have just a list of games that are actually owed so that friends comparing games know that you actually have the game in case they want to play against you.
- Backward compatible game listing with icons. Just like the Games played, list all the backward compatible games that the user has available/played. This allows members of his friends list to compare and opens ups other opportunities of game play. A big sales point for me was the fact that the 360 was also able to play original games (the list is still growing I hope) so promote it more in the user interface.
- Allow the three types of games to be displayed all together and separately. I would like to see three separate lists Games Played, Arcade Live (owned) Played, Backward Compatible Played.
- An option to display a real time clock and date on the dashboard and under the video chat windows for both parties in video chat. Basically this allows the users to see the time difference and also keep track of time while in video chat. The dashboard clock feature is just because I think I would like to have it while listening to music that I am streaming.
- Increase beyond two the number of people that can be in a video chat at one time. I would like to see a minimum of 4. This allows clan members to chat and discuss topics before and after matches.
- A web browser. It’s time to allow users access to the net via the 360.
Well these are just my thoughts.
there already is a download history in the account mangment section in xblm so whatevers at the top is what u last downloaded
i believe a couple of your requests would have to be in a back-end type update and not a dashboard update, like they would have to overhaull the live system as a whole to make those “games played” list changes. but i agree on the trial games thing ô¿ô
all i ever wanted was group chat. if i dont get it this time, i’m just turning to the gallows.

Extended Friends Lists to me would be a no brainer. I would also like to filter friends who are on and offline who have each game. Hell, I wouldn’t mind it if I could have a FL for each game, but that is very doubtful.
seperate friends lists for each game is totally crap…why would you want that? I’d have to add the same 50 people in every single game I play then….
